Remington Buys Tapco
Popular shotgun and rifle accessory maker Tapco was acquired by Remington which is owned by a company called The Freedom Group which in recent years has been gobbling up companies in the gun industry from my observation. The ownership information from their website you tells you they currently own Remington®, Bushmaster® Firearms, DPMS/Panther Arms™, Marlin®, H&R®, The Parker Gun™, Mountain Khakis®, Advanced Armament Corp. ®, Dakota Arms®, Para™ USA and Barnes® Bullets.
All these companies are mainly firearm companies and with the purchase of Tapco they can now secure a spot in the firearm accessories market too.
From what has been released it appears things for the most part at Tapco will continue to be the same as they will still retain most of their employees and as before produce out of Georgia. Which means no American jobs will be lost which is a good thing.
In addtition to owning these companies the Freedom Group also has some media interest too, having acquired the popular Firemarm Blog as well.
Lets hope this will mean better quality goods and lower prices for consumers.

MP Shield trigger guard laser
Laserlyte has made a nice little trigger guard laser for the Smith & Wesson MP Shield pistol. I know what you are saying... doesn't Crimson Trace make one already ? Yes they do...but my guess is the Laserlyte version will be a lot cheaper and work just as good. Get some.

LaserLyte Center Mass Laser

Laserlytes Center Mass Laser projects a ring of 8 red /green laser dots with one red /green laser dot in the center as the aiming laser. The circle grows at one-inch per yard, approximately the same configuration as a shotgun aimed at a moving target. The red/green laser circular pattern gives the user the advantage of a wide field-of-view while using both eyes for aiming.
The Laserlyte® Center Mass Laser allows new shooters the advantage of building muscle reflex skills through learning the sight pattern for their specific firearm. For personal defense firearms, the laser circumvents the user from taking precious time aiming with sights when all the user has to do is position the center aiming laser to on the target. For target shooters with vision discrepancies, the Center Mass Laser will bring back the fun in target shooting with more successful hits. There are two version of the Center Mass Laser a red rail version made for pistols and a Green one made for shotguns and rifles. Take a look at the demo video below to see the Center Mass Laser system in action on a long gun.
For more information you can visit the Laserlyte website.

Home defense Gun Shopping in NY
I decided to make some inquiries today with two local gun shops I spotted close to my home.
Coming from Florida where the laws are so gun friendly to a gun nanny state like New York is such a big adjustment for me.
My home in NY feels naked with out a gun of some sort. So i decided to arm myself after the possibilty of looters from the events of hurricane Sandy became a possibilty in my eyes.
The first store i visited was LI OUTDOOORSMAN in Rockville center NY. I was not really impressed. Limted options and over priced guns were the order of the day. My inquery for a home defense shotgun yielded none of the norms no Mossberg 500,Maverick 88, Saiga 12 or Remington 870 was available at the time however they did have various 410 shotguns...eeer no.
The guy was real nice though and gave me as much info as he could on what little they had.
Futher up the road was SOUTH SHORE SPORTSMAN INC. These guys had the goods. Wider selection and more customer oriented but prices were still kind of high. The rep quickly gave me a Mossberg 500 to feel out after a safety check (something the other store didnt do ) These guys were a law enforcement supplier however so it stands to reason they would have more guns than the previous store that seemed to be more of a hunting / fishing kinda Cabelas typa deal.
Both reps told me that i could own a shotgun or rifle for home defense in Nassau county with no hassle but a pistol would take about a year to obtain with the proper paper work.
I will keep looking but the second store definately has my attention.

I survived Sandy
We only lost cable and cell services so i could not blog watch tv or talk on the phone but we finally got cable back. People are now throwing hands at gas stations and the national guard has rolled into town to keep the peace.
Sandy was not as bad as some of the hurricanes i have experience in Florida but for the average New Yorker this is bad i guess.
