ASP rechargeable Tactical 300 lumens Flashlight

Simply put this is bad ass. It recharges via a computer usb or charger and if you cant recharge that day it also works with the official shooters battery (CR123A). Get some.

The Freedom Group buys another Gun Company

These guys seem to be gobbling up the gun industry one company after another. I recently saw a comment on a blog that read "is it just me or is someone going to get a bit alarmed at all the companies the Freedom Group is buying?"

They have a very valid point I think consolidation makes control so much easier. This kind of reminds me of the of what the big companies did to small time farmers in this country.

The irony here is the " Freedom Group " may ultimately cause us our freedom. What happens if a gun nanny like billionaire Bloomberg buys the Freedom Group there would be no more Tapco,Remington,Para USA, Bushmaster,Barnes bullets,DPMS /Panther arms etc.

Their latest acquisition is LAR manufacturing whichs makes the LAR Grizzly T-50  .50 BMG rifles.

Took my 715T to the range today

Ran 500 rounds though it with not one jam or hitch. This little gun shoots like a dream.
I shot several types of ammo Remington Thunderbolt,CCI AR tactical and some Federal.
All my shots where with a Bushnell 4x42 rimfire scope.
At first it was shooting low left but after some minor adjustments I was getting the groups I wanted.
All the shooting today was offhand at 10 yards but I just ordered a bi-pod which should be here for my next range trip. Then I will take out to the max lenght of the range and see how it does.
Checkout the pics below.

ATACS FG Camo

DCS (Digital Concealment Systems ) has released a new type of camo dubbed the A-TACS FG Camo. The A-TACS FG Camo design uses several shades of green with elements from the real terrain which is much better than the traditional digital camo in use today by the military and law enforcement. The A-TACS FG Camo works by replacing un-natural pixels with organic pixels and as you can tell from the pics below this is definitely a better system. More info.

Picked up a Mossberg 715T today !

I finally bought my first gun in New York a Mossberg 715T. No 6 position stock allowed on rifles and no more than 10 round mags in New York. So i did not exactly get the model of 715T i wanted but it was close.
I plan on getting some 715 accessories like a vertical grip, sling, flashlight and maybe a green laser.
The 715T i picked up came with a 16.5" barrel and has an overall length of about 34.75".
The rifle did come with a red dot sight made by Barska which was a nice addition.
The ATI fixed stock came with a sling mount stud which i plan to use for adding a one point bungee sling.
The rifle comes with one magazine but i picked up an extra one and plan on buying a few more online.
The magazines are shorter than your average 22 magazine because they are staggered to save space.
The version I got was the flat top version so it also came with a set of removeable front and rear iron sights. I plan on switching these out for the flip up front and rear sights.
I also picked up an AR15 case by Blackhawk and a box of CCI AR tactical ammo.
Next week i plan on taking this bad boy to the range and i will do a review on how it performs.

Doomsday Preppers - post Sandy thinking..

With tropical storm Sandy passing over the east coast and destroying mostly property here in Long Island New York. I'm mostly stuck at home. My cable and cell phone service has been restored but whats creating the big issue for most New Yorkers now in the post Sandy madness is gas.

Yesterday I had to drive two towns over to get gas at a station that just got a tanker in. After waiting about 2 hours in line and almost getting in the gas station we had the pleasure of hearing the police announce over the loud speaker that we should all go home as the gas was done.

Is there really a gas shortage here or are people just hording the gas ? Who knows...but it got me thinking about my SHTF plan and re-evaluating the contents of my bug out bag.

When I lived in Florida I was a lot more prepared for natural disasters. Lots of can food,Storm matches, knives,my looter stick (Maverick 88 shotgun),radio, gps and the whole nine.

Living in New York has made me more lapse about SHTF prep and with the after effects of Sandy still hurting this city and gas in short suply. I am stuck at home watching Doomsday Preppers and getting some good ideas.

Two things are missing from my SHTF prep kit is a .22 cal rifle and a nice 12 ga shottie. Two things I will procure as soon as my next Adsense check comes in :)

Remington Buys Tapco

Popular shotgun and rifle accessory maker Tapco was acquired by Remington which is owned by a company called The Freedom Group which in recent years has been gobbling up companies in the gun industry from my observation. The ownership information from their website you tells you they currently own Remington®, Bushmaster® Firearms, DPMS/Panther Arms™, Marlin®, H&R®, The Parker Gun™, Mountain Khakis®, Advanced Armament Corp. ®, Dakota Arms®, Para™ USA and Barnes® Bullets.

All these companies are mainly firearm companies and with the purchase of Tapco they can now secure a spot in the firearm accessories market too.

From what has been released it appears things for the most part at Tapco will continue to be the same as they will still retain most of their employees and as before produce out of Georgia. Which means no American jobs will be lost which is a good thing.

In addtition to owning these companies the Freedom Group also has some media interest too, having acquired the popular Firemarm Blog as well.

Lets hope this will mean better quality goods and lower prices for consumers.

LaserLyte Center Mass Laser

Laserlytes Center Mass Laser projects a ring of 8 red /green laser dots with one red /green laser dot in the center as the aiming laser. The circle grows at one-inch per yard, approximately the same configuration as a shotgun aimed at a moving target. The red/green laser circular pattern gives the user the advantage of a wide field-of-view while using both eyes for aiming.

The Laserlyte® Center Mass Laser allows new shooters the advantage of building muscle reflex skills through learning the sight pattern for their specific firearm. For personal defense firearms, the laser circumvents the user from taking precious time aiming with sights when all the user has to do is position the center aiming laser to on the target. For target shooters with vision discrepancies, the Center Mass Laser will bring back the fun in target shooting with more successful hits. There are two version of the Center Mass Laser a red rail version made for pistols and a Green one made for shotguns and rifles. Take a look at the demo video below to see the Center Mass Laser system in action on a long gun.

For more information you can visit the Laserlyte website.

Home defense Gun Shopping in NY

I decided to make some inquiries today with two local gun shops I spotted close to my home.
Coming from Florida where the laws are so gun friendly to a gun nanny state like New York is such a big adjustment for me.
My home in NY feels naked with out a gun of some sort.  So i decided to arm myself after the possibilty of looters from the events of hurricane Sandy became a possibilty in my eyes.
The first store i visited was LI OUTDOOORSMAN in Rockville center NY. I was not really impressed. Limted options and over priced guns were the order of the day. My inquery for a home defense shotgun yielded none of the norms no Mossberg 500,Maverick 88, Saiga 12 or Remington 870 was available at the time however they did have various 410 shotguns...eeer no.
The guy was real nice though and gave me as much info as he could on what little they had.
Futher up the road was SOUTH SHORE SPORTSMAN INC. These guys had the goods. Wider selection and more customer oriented but prices were still kind of high. The rep quickly gave me a Mossberg 500 to feel out after a safety check (something the other store didnt do ) These guys were a law enforcement supplier however so it stands to reason they would have more guns than the previous store that seemed to be more of a hunting / fishing kinda Cabelas typa deal.
Both reps told me that i could own a shotgun or rifle for home defense in Nassau county with no hassle but a pistol would take about a year to obtain with the proper paper work.
I will keep looking but the second store definately has my attention.

I survived Sandy

We only lost cable and cell services so i could not blog watch tv or talk on the phone but we finally got cable back. People are now throwing hands at gas stations and the national guard has rolled into town to keep the peace.
Sandy was not as bad as some of the hurricanes i have experience in Florida but for the average New Yorker this is bad i guess.
